Virtualwind: Wind Flow Simulations and Preliminary Pedestrian Comfort Assessment

RWDI has developed proprietary Virtualwind software to simulate the influence of the buildings on airflow for prominent wind directions. This modeling technique is used to simulate the expected wind flow patterns throughout a development for one model configuration. This information helps identify the nature of wind flows that can be expected and then allow RWDI to make recommendations about refinements to the conceptual design that may result in reduced wind loads, improved pedestrian comfort and fewer exhaust re-entrainment issues.

Benefit: Develop an understanding of the wind flows associated with the project while providing the design team with suggestions early in the design process.
