  • Water Flume Overview

Soon after the development of the water flume technique to simulate winds and drifting snow conditions, RWDI began providing consulting services to clients.

A water flume is a specifically designed tank that introduces fine sand into deep flowing water that envelops a scale model of buildings and roads to simulate the effects of wind and blowing snow.

  • Benefits

Understanding: Dye injected in the water flume demonstrates speed ups and lulls in wind flow patterns.

Extent of snowfall: The water flume is capable of investigating varying wind speeds and extent of snowfall.

Great correlation: Drifting and loading patterns in the flume have shown great correlation to real world patterns.
