  • Overview

RWDI worked with the design team to develop appropriate thermal comfort conditions and developed concepts ranging from shading devices to wind scoops that increase cooling breezes.

  • Services

    • Wind comfort
    • Thermal comfort including effects of long exposure
    • Interactive consulting sessions focused on mitigation
    • Cladding wind loads the two largest buildings

  • Benefits

Saving time: Interactive consulting sessions at RWDI expedited changes and additions to the overall design as prescribed by RWDI's experts who used wind tunnel test results.

    Design optimization for pedestrian comfort:

    • Modifying the placement of trees and bushes improved wind flow and helped alleviate potentially uncomfortable heat and humidity conditions for outdoor amenity spaces.
    • Developing a wind scoop concept that would double as a staircase provided an innovative way to channel cooling breezes to critical areas of the site.
    • Modifying the building heights, parking garage location, and some roof shapes improved wind flows and assisted to achieve the design goal of greater comfort for Camana bay pedestrians.

Cost savings and increased safety: Wind tunnel testing for the larger waterside buildings provided accurate design wind loads for cladding design to reduce material costs and increase safety of the design.
