Mark Vanderheyden

Mark joined RWDI in 1989 as an Engineering graduate and was immediately put to work studying the ventilation system of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudia Arabia. He worked extremely long hours in Guelph while still living in Toronto, analyzing unusual buildings half a world away then commuting home at night. "I remember being so tired one night," he remembers, "I thought I saw a gnome on the hood of my car."

In 1999, Mark took the lead at RWDI's western business unit, soon added an office in Vancouver and, in 2003, merged the western operations with the Ontario-based industrial services group to form AIR (Atmospheric Industrial Risk). AIR is now Canada's largest air quality and noise consulting group. Mark has since become RWDI's Vice President of Strategic Development.

"The business has changed. When I started, our job was to come up with an answer to a question asked by a client. Now, we ask questions first and work more with the clients as part of their team to provide integrated solutions. We advocate for our clients."
Mark is a devoted father who loves spending time at his summer cottage with his wife and children building decks and wooden furniture, bird watching, and fishing.
