Kathy E. Preston

Kathy was impressed with RWDI's "tools and experts" when she joined the company in 2003, and was particularly interested in using photochemical modeling (related to her PhD thesis) to evaluate secondary formation of ozone and particulate matter. RWDI was the only company in Canada doing that work.

She started in the Vancouver office as one of three employees, taking over as general manager and building the group to 12. Today, she is RWDI AIR's Director of Resources, leading 60 technical staff including six direct leaders.

Recent projects have included work on the "social license" to operate the BC Hydro Burrard Power Plant, evaluating health impacts in the Lower Fraser Valley airshed for the BC Lung Association, and researching odour management in countries around the world for a report with recommendations to the BC government on odour regulation.

Kathy sees air quality issues gaining prominence in coming years, with greenhouse gases at the forefront.

In 2008, Kathy completed her first Ironman but she’s unsure if she’ll do another.  Her future, she says, will preferably include surfing in Costa Rica. She attended a surf camp there recently and fell for both the sport and the country.
