B.Sc., B.A.Sc., P.Eng.
Bill joined RWDI in 1988 with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. As a project coordinator in the Air Quality Group his specialty was exhaust dispersion. In his first decade, he led major projects at Toronto’s Pearson Airport, the Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre, and Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. Between 1997 and 2005, as a Senior Project Manager, Bill supervised more than 500 RWDI projects as the key contact on pricing, prioritizing, and client relations.
“Advances in information technology have changed our business tremendously,” says Bill. “We now conduct projects on a global scale involving participants from all over the world. RWDI has learned the nuances of doing business in other cultures and time zones with very different styles of communication and project scheduling.”
Bill’s technical specialty has also changed radically. “In the 1980s, exhaust retrainment issues with buildings were usually solved with higher stacks and exhaust flows. Today, with far more focus on energy efficiency and the well being of the environment, both those solutions come across as brute force, inefficient, and shortsighted. Integrated design that reduces energy use and pollutants is now the goal.”
