Cold Room Testing
RWDI can conduct cold room tests on full-scale mock-ups of building elements, to identify the critical details that lead to problems with snow and ice accumulations on structures. This testing can also be used to iteratively develop mitigation measures to reduce the potential for these problems to occur.
Two advantages of cold room testing are that:
- the weather can be controlled in order to test the building features in a variety of meteorological conditions
- it is more efficient to install mitigation measures on the model and assess their effectiveness before conducting a full scale retrofite of the actual building
Cold room tests can be conducted outside our facility in Guelph (weather-dependant), or at other facilities, using models constructed by RWDI, and under the supervision of RWDI personnel.
