Positions in RWDI's Model Shop

As an employee in RWDI's model shop, you will work in a highly collaborative environment. You will participate in planning, coordination and problem solving of modelling issues.

Below is an overview of the two main positions in the model shop.

Physical Modeller

As a Physical Modeller, your responsibility concentrates on the accurate scale construction of a building's surroundings as well as the instrumentation of the study building. The tasks in overview are as follows:

  • create accurate scale models of buildings and ground elevations around a study model by deciphering the following:
    • detailed client drawings
    • sketches
    • aerial and oblique photos
    • topographic maps
  • use the work shop's complete tool resources such as:
    • table saws
    • band saws
    • jointers
    • sanders
  • instrument study models for the recording of data

Computer Modeller

As Computer Modeller, your responsibility concentrates on the accurate scale construction of the study building. The tasks in overview are as follows:

  • decipher detailed client drawings to prepare the files for the following:
    • growing a scale study model in our Stereolithograhy machine
    • creating scale topography using our ShopBot
    • use in our Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software
  • use the work shop's complete software resources such as:
  • make last minute client changes
